Baby photography in Stratford
As a family and newborn photographer who’s spent countless hours in people’s homes capturing love, laughter, and the chaos in between - one question I get asked more often than you might think is:
"Can our dog/cat/pet be part of the session?"
The answer? A big, resounding yes!
I absolutely love when pets make an appearance during a session. Whether they’re proudly perched on the sofa like royalty, sneaking in for a curious sniff of the baby, or curling up at your feet during cuddles - pets bring something wonderfully real to family photos. They’re part of your everyday, your home life, your story. So why wouldn’t they be part of your family photos?
As a cat owner myself, I completely get it. Pets are often your first babies - they’ve been there through thick and thin, long before your newborn arrived. And they continue to be loyal companions through every sleepless night and toddler tantrum. Including them in your session is not only adorable (and often hilarious), it’s meaningful too. These photos become a reminder of just how much love was in your home - paws, fur, and all.
Worried your dog might be too energetic? Or your cat will just disappear under the bed? Don’t stress. I’ve photographed families with bouncy dogs and shy rescue cats. I’m used to working around pets with patience and flexibility - and I never force anything. If your pet wants to join in, wonderful. If they’d rather nap in another room, that’s okay too.
At the heart of it all, my approach to family and newborn photography is about connection - not perfection. Whether your dog is licking your toddler’s face or your cat decides the baby’s blanket is the perfect place for a nap, those are the little unscripted moments that make your story unique.
So yes, your pets are 100% welcome to join your at-home photo session. They’re part of your family and they deserve a spot in the frame too.
