Newborn photographer Walthamstow
There's a particular kind of photo that stops you mid-scroll years later. Not because it's elaborate or clever, but because it's real. It's your baby, your home, your family - exactly as you were in that fleeting, exhausted, beautiful window of early parenthood. When you're in the thick of planning a newborn session, it's easy to be drawn in by the beautiful setups you see online - the baskets, the wraps, the flower crowns, the tiny hats. They look dreamy. But I want to talk honestly about what actually lasts, and why the simplest approach is almost always the one you'll treasure the longest.
When you look at newborn photography trends from even five years ago, some of it already feels dated. That's the thing about heavily styled setups - they're tied to a moment in time, but not your moment. They're tied to a trend.
I've looked at a lot of photographers' work over the years, and what I've noticed is that themed setups and props can look fun in the moment. But they don't age well. A few years down the line, the basket or the floral headband is what your eye goes to first - not your baby's face.
And here's something worth knowing: in many photography studios, those props and setups are shared across multiple families. So the photos end up looking remarkably similar from one family to the next. There's very little that's uniquely yours in them.
What is simple newborn photography?
When people hear "simple newborn photography," they often picture plain backdrops, maybe a couple of basic props. But that's not what I mean at all.
When I say simple, I mean this: I arrive at your home with my camera, and I photograph you and your family, exactly as you are. No baskets, elaborate setups, and definitely no props I've brought along from session to session.
What makes the photos feel complete is already there - your home, your baby's own clothes, maybe a favourite blanket, the light coming through your living room window. That's it. That's everything we need.
Babies don't need anything extra for the photos to look beautiful. They really don't.
Why in-home newborn photos are timeless
They're uniquely yours
Your home is part of your family's story. Your baby's first weeks happen here - in your bedroom, on your sofa, in the particular light of your kitchen on a Tuesday morning. Using your own space and your own things means the photos will never look like anyone else's.
The focus stays on the baby (and you)
When there's no styled setup to compete with, your eye goes straight to the faces, the hands, the connection between parents and this tiny new person. That's what you'll want to look at in ten years. Not a prop.
Classic images don't date
Photos that are natural, unposed, and rooted in real moments tend to look just as good years later as they did when you first saw them. There's nothing trendy to grow out of. They simply are.
Your home doesn't need to be perfect
I hear this worry a lot - "our place isn't photogenic enough" or "it's a bit cluttered right now." That's completely fine. Your home as it is right now is part of your family's real story, and that's exactly what I want to capture - clutter and all.
Simple, timeless newborn photos are an investment in something you genuinely can't recreate later. The stage passes so fast. And a photo that's classic and natural will still feel just as precious when your child is ten, or twenty, or grown. That's what I'm here to capture for you.
“We wanted some really natural photos at home with our 3 week old baby and everything about Alina made the experience wonderful. During the session, me and my husband were put at ease and it was so relaxed, and importantly really natural. Alina's friendly and chilled vibe was perfect for what we were after, and provided some light guidance which was just what we needed. I never expected to enjoy it as much as I did and now we have wonderful photos as a memory which I will treasure forever.”
