Autumn Family Photoshoot

If you have booked an autumn photoshoot for your family, you may wonder what are the best clothes you can wear so your photos look beautiful. And while nature really shows off with a variety of stunning colours during this time of the year, you still need your outfits to complement these rich tones. Here are some of the tips for you!

Pick colours to compliment your surroundings

Think of the location of your autumn family photoshoot. Are there going to be lots of colourful trees? Or perhaps bushes with seasonal flowers? It's important for your outfits to compliment the background. Neutral colours like beige, cream and browns will work well with most backgrounds. Navy blue and grey can also be a good choice but don't dress in dark colours from head to toe!

Having said that, if you are a fan of bright colours these can also work quite well. Think orange tones, mustardy yellows, berry shade and deep dark greens.

Layers, textures and patterns

To give your outfit a bit of an "oomph" I suggest adding various layers and different textures - think knitted scarves, chunky jumpers, hats, coats, gilets etc. Layers and textures add interest to your outfit and they make it look cosy and more autumnal. And the best thing is that you can add and/or remove some of them during your session - depending on the weather or to add variety to your shots.

Appropriate footwear

Let's not forget about shoes! An outdoor autumn family photoshoot requires comfortable boots, trainers or wellies and if you ask me, these definitely add character an autumnal cosy look to your photos.

Don't match, coordinate

Start with a your outfit first. You will want to choose something that's comfortable and that makes you feel great. From there build outfits for the rest of the family (while sticking to your chosen colour palette). Don't think you all have to wear identical outfits - just make sure the outfits complement each other.
