Maternity photoshoot East London
While maternity photo sessions have become incredibly popular over the last years, there are still many women wondering: should I really have a pregnancy photoshoot? I am a strong believer in documenting your pregnancy as it's such a special time in a woman's life and it should be celebrated. If you are not completely convinced yet, let me give you 7 reasons why I think it's a wonderful idea to have a pregnancy photoshoot.
Time to bond with your partner
Pregnancy can be hard not only on the expecting mother, but on her partner too. The changes that happen during those 9 months can affect both of the partners, in different ways. One of the most wonderful things about maternity sessions is the interactions between couples as they celebrate this new life they've created. A photo session is a chance to pause and reflect on this new stage in your life, and this new baby you are bringing into this world. It is a great way to mark your transition from a couple into a family.
Celebrate your body
Pregnancy can be really hard on some women, and even if you do feel amazing during your pregnancy, chances are there are moments when you don't feel your best. After all, creating a new life can take its toll on your body. But however you feel about yourself during those 9 months, the undeniable fact is that your body is AMAZING and it's doing AMAZING things. These maternity images represent everything you have gone through up to this point and it's worth celebrating. Trust me, one day you will miss your bump (or the baby kicks) and you will look fondly and with awe at these photos and at your body, which grew your little baby.
Mark your journey into motherhood
Pregnancy may not be a phase of your life you particularly enjoy, but nonetheless - it is one of the most important chapters of your life. You transition from a woman to a mother. Not only there are a lot of changes going in your body, but also emotionally. Your maternal instincts and intuitions kick in, your need to protect this baby and your family. It's a fascinating time and one worth documenting as it's so incredibly important to your character.
Time capsule for your child
You may remember your pregnancy very well, how you felt and what the world around you looked like. But this baby you're carrying will not know the world that was there before he/she was born. By having maternity photos taken, you're giving your child a one-of-a-kind time capsule, a glimpse into the world they'll never be able to experience for themselves. You will show them what their parents were like as a couple before they became parents. They will see for themselves how excited you were to meet them.
Capture the joy and anticipation
Pregnancy can be a mix of various emotions but no matter how you feel physically, you are excited for what's to come - not only for meeting your baby for the first time, but also bringing them home and raising them with your partner. Us humans love to think back to our past with nostalgia or to the future with excitement, so much so that we may forget what this anticipation felt like in the moment. Maternity photos can serve as a reminder of those feelings in the years to come. After all, most women only experience pregnancy a few times in their lives, so having these kind of photos is a wonderful keepsake.
You decide what to show in your photos
Some women want to bare their pregnant bumps and show them off in their full glory. Others may want to keep theirs under wraps. These photos are all about you and you can choose to be more bold or more conservative - there's no right or wrong here! You can use this session to get creative or more intimate and soulful. I work with each woman on their level of comfort in what to wear or not wear during their session. The number one rule is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed, so you choose the outfits that essentially 'you'.
Document your house before baby's arrival
I am passionate about photographing families in their homes as your home is part of your family story. It's the place where you will bring your baby for the first time. The place they will grow up in. Photographing you doing your ordinary routines may seem insignificant, but in years to come these photos will take you back to that moment in time when you were expecting your baby and you will cherish the photographic evidence of your safe haven.
